Tynemouth Park has been a fixture of the seafront at Grand Parade for generations, and it's still got a proper old-school variety to it, a dinosaur-themed adventure golf course, an outdoor soft play area with a kamikazi slide, and a new-ish Pirate Quest Maze for the swashbucklers in the family. Add in a licensed café-bar for the grown-ups and it's an easy half-day out that doesn't cost the earth.
Lost World Adventure Golf is the headline attraction, a tropically landscaped course populated with giant dinosaurs, and if you can land your ball on the final hole there's a prize wheel to spin.
Jungle Wipeout is the outdoor soft play zone, dog-friendly and best approached on a dry day since it's entirely weather-dependent, while Pirate Quest is a scavenger-hunt maze that keeps slightly older kids occupied for a good half hour. The Boating Lake, home to the local model boat club as well as the resident swans and ducks, tends to open in spring and summer only, weather and pond weed permitting.

When: Lost World Adventure Golf: Monday–Friday 9.30am–3pm, weekends and school holidays 10am–5pm. Jungle Wipeout and Pirate Quest Maze: weekends and school holidays only, roughly 10am–5pm (call ahead as hours shift with the weather). The Greenhouse café keep similar seasonal hours.
Price: Adventure golf is £6 for adults, £5 for concessions and under-16s. Jungle Wipeout is £6 for under 4s, £7 for age 5 and over. Pirate Quest Maze is £2 per adult and £3 per child, which includes the treasure hunt map and a prize.
Given how weather-dependent the outdoor attractions are, it's genuinely worth ringing ahead on 0191 258 7593 to check what's actually running before you set off, especially for Jungle Wipeout and the Boating Lake.
