Our Favorite Farm in the Area
Of all the farm attractions we've taken the kids to across the North East, Whitehouse Farm is the one we keep coming back to. There's always so much to do, the animals genuinely change and grow with the seasons, and the kids get properly stuck in rather than just looking through a fence which is exactly what you want for a good farm day out.
We visited today (2nd August) so these images, experience and review is so fresh in our heads meaning you get the genuine opinion.
Why We Keep Going Back
Whitehouse Farm is Northumberland's largest family run farm attraction, spread across 40 acres just south of Morpeth, and what sets it apart from a lot of farm parks is just how much of it is genuinely hands-on. It's not just traditional farm animals either, alongside the usual goats, ponies and donkeys there are meerkats, wallabies, llamas, monkeys, emus, skunks, owls and even scorpions and other exotics, so there's a real sense of variety that keeps things interesting even if you've been there a dozen times before.
The kids properly love getting involved. Small animal handling, grooming a goat or a pony, critter encounters and daily tractor rides are all included in your ticket rather than them being an extra charge on top, and there's usually something else happening in the events barn. Seasonal favorites of ours are the lamb bottle feeding, and goat yoga.
Whatever the Weather
One of the best things about Whitehouse Farm is that a lot of its under cover, which means it genuinely works as a rainy day option as well as a sunny one, unlike a lot of other farm attractions that are fully outdoors. There's an indoor soft play area for when little legs need a change of pace, plus outdoor play including the Castle Catapult and big air pillows for the more adventurous kids.
Food and Facilities
The Hungry Pig Cafe on site does exactly what you need it to, nothing fancy, but a decent menu with all the classics from chicken nuggets and chips to jacket potatoes. It is on the higher priced side so bear that in mind if your planning on eating on site. It is fully accessible throughout too, flat surfaces, ramps and plenty of seating, so push chairs and anyone with mobility issues can get around easily.
There's loads of picnic spots and one of our favorite things to do is have a picnic in the larger play area that next to the car park, there's also loads of benches next to tractor rides for picnics, and an indoor picnic barn so the choice really is endless.
What We Think
What keeps us coming back isn't any single big attraction, it's that Whitehouse Farm consistently delivers a proper, full, hands-on day out without ever feeling like it's resting on its laurels. Every visit there's something a little different, a new animal, a new show, new characters, a seasonal event, which is exactly why it's earned its place as our go-to farm recommendation in the area.
