Our Number One Pick for Families with Kids of Different Ages
If you've got kids spanning a few different ages and you're forever trying to find somewhere that genuinely keeps all of them happy at once, we're going to save you some searching. Stocked Park is our number one recommendation, hands down, and after several visits across different seasons we still haven't run out of reasons to go back.
A Genuine Full Day Out
We don't say this lightly, but Stocked has everything, and it is a proper full day out. If you actually wanted to do it all, every playground, the maze, the Playhive, the outdoor inflatables, you're looking at somewhere between four and five hours, and that's without rushing. This isn't a place you nip into for an hour on the way to somewhere else, it's a destination in its own right, so go in with the whole day set aside and you won't be disappointed.
The Playhive
The play hive is Stockeld's indoor adventure playground, and the theming is genuinely incredible, four connected worlds covering space, air, jungle and sea, with spiraling slides, high level walkways and interactive games throughout. It's air conditioned too, which matters more than you'd think on a proper hot summer day, or equally when the Yorkshire weather does what it does best.
Our tip, and it's one we've learnt through trial and error: save the Playhive for last. It gets noticeably quieter later in the day, once a lot of families have started heading home, so you get more room to actually enjoy it rather than queuing for every slide. Just remember, socks are compulsory inside, so don't get caught out but the gift shop does sell them if you forget. If you have multiple ages and especially little ones it is huge, so we did have one child per parent just in fear of losing one of them so bear this in mind.
The Enchanted Forest
The Enchanted Forest is genuinely lovely, and it's not a quick wander through, if your kids stop at every playground along the way (and they will), it takes about an hour to get properly round. There are five themed playgrounds hidden within it, from Woodsands Cove with its pirate ship and giant sandpit, to Spider's Lair with its multi-story treehouse, zip wires and climbing nets. It's imaginative in a way that a lot of outdoor play areas simply arent, and there are interactive sculptures and musical elements tucking into trees. Making even the walking between playgrounds entertaining rather than just a means of getting to the next bit.
Completely pram friendly it's perfect for all ages, and midway through there's a lovely snack shed to pick up your favorite coffee or ice lolly. There's also picnic benches if you've brought your own and then bumper boats to hire which my kids absolutely loved.
The Maze, Bouncing Pillows & Everything Else
Beyond the forest and the Playhive, there's the Magical Maze, one of the largest yew tree mazes in the country, with over two miles of paths to get properly lost in and a central tower to climb for the view (and the photos) once you make it out. In the warmer months there's the full Summertime Adventure setup too, giant bouncing pillows, a hundred foot outdoor obstacle course, dual lane slides, and a genuine festival atmosphere with live music and entertainment on stage throughout the day.
And now, if you fancy making more of a weekend of it rather than just a day trip, Stocked has added clamping on site, so you can extend the whole experience rather than driving home tired at the end of the day.
What We Thought
What sets Stocked apart for us is genuinely how well it works across different ages. Older kids get proper adventure and challenge in the maze and the bigger playgrounds, younger ones have plenty in the Enchanted Forest and the toddler-friendly areas, and there's enough variety that nobody in the family ends up bored or left out. It's also worth knowing that Stockeld actively encourages picnicking, with a large picnic field and plenty of outdoor seating, so you don't have to spend a fortune on food if you'd rather bring your own.
