This one's rather special if you've a small person who loves a good hunt. Peter Rabbit™: Tales on the Tyne is a free sculpture trail winding its way through Newcastle and North Tyneside this summer — 43 beautifully decorated Peter Rabbit sculptures and 53 smaller "fluffles" tucked into parks, streets and public buildings, waiting to be found. It's raising money for St Oswald's Hospice as it goes, which makes it feel like a genuinely good use of an afternoon, quite aside from the fact your wild child will be thoroughly occupied trying to track every last one down before the summer ends.

The lowdown:

• Where: Spread across Newcastle and North Tyneside — parks, streets, museums, even inside Newcastle Cathedral

• When: Wednesday 15th July – Monday 14th September 2026, all day, every day (it's outdoors and always accessible)

• Cost: Free to follow. The official app, which offers a map, sculpture-collecting and rewards, costs £1.99, with proceeds going to St Oswald's Hospice — worth it if your children are the completionist type

• Parking: Depends entirely on which stretch of the trail you're tackling — better to pick a neighbourhood and use whatever local parking, Metro or bus suits that patch

  
  

Why your wild child will love it: it's less a stroll and more a mission, with a genuine sense of achievement each time a rabbit is spotted. Best approached in small chunks across the summer rather than in one heroic dash — choose an area, grab the map or the app, and make a morning of it.
